Things that make you feel like a whale!

Before you read this post I should point out I have quite a positive body image but sometimes in everyday life things happen that make you feel massive!

1. Being offered a seat on the train, especially if you feel there are other people standing who are more deserving.

2. The sly looks from other people on the train to your stomach area clearly thinking "is she pregnant?"

3. When you struggle to put on skinny jeans or are conviced they've shrunk in the wash.

4. That time around 2pm when you have to undo the top button because your stomach is uncomfortable.

5. When you go out and think you look amazing until a photo appears on social media where your arms/stomach/thighs look massive

I'm bringing them use they all happen to everyone and their normal but they completely knock your confidence. I was taking too a friend on the weekend and we both were offered a seat but we could both understand it was someone being kind but I still went home and eat all the chocolate in sight as I thought it showed that exercising & eating healthy is clearly not doing anything for my body! But I'm back on track now, I had just convinced myself I looked pregnant for the last week.

Sure Run to the Beat 2014

I've learnt as part of my training for any race I like to have a practice race of smaller distance to build my confidence. So looking around for London 10Ks I was excited when I read about RTTB! Running & DJs playing! what's not to love. I was aware that Sure had just taken over & had heard rumours about the poor organisation in the previous year (when it had a different sponsor) but signed up anyway.

And I'm so glad that I did! I turned up early as I wanted to cause as little anxiety to my day as I could but arrived to a well sign posted car park & an excellent event village with lots going on. Of course I had to take the opportunity to have my picture taken-I am after all a massive poser! There was warm ups offered by fitness first & music & DJs playing the whole pre-race. The atmosphere was good and considering the amount of people the toilet queues were acceptable.

When going to the holding pens to start the race I quickly realised I made a huge mistake when choosing my estimated finish time. I was in the red pen which was the last and had a massive amount of people who seemed have slower goal times then myself. I did what I could and pushed forward but once I started I was trapped behind people for the first 2km.

The course was surprisingly more hilly then I had prepared for (I actually hadn't really prepared at all-error!) But the atmosphere was positive going round so I could enjoy it once I gave up on competing in my goal time. The DJs were of different genres and I enjoyed 90% of them but as there wasn't music the whole way round I needed my music as well-heaven forbid I ever run without music!

I finished the race in 1:06 which is not my best 10K time but I had to accept that due to putting myself in the wrong colour & the amount of people. When I was finished I got my medal, some energy drinks & some protein ice cream so all in all good swag! I would do the race again and would try to get a group of people as the music & location make it definitely worthwhile.

August catch up & September goals

So I suck at setting realistic goals for the month as I haven't fully achieved any of my august goals-but shhhhhhh don't tell anyone.

1. Sticking to my training plan-was very hit & miss. I had some good runs & sometimes I was downright lazy.

2. Return to the gym and start lifting weights-well I joined the gym half way through the month & have done weights when I've gone but I haven't gone consistently.

3. Try new recipes! Well you should have a pastry less quiche recipe coming but I have not made ice lollies or tried any other recipes. So yeah I suck at setting goals

So my more relistic goals for September are as follows:

1. Work out at least 4 times a week a mix of runs or gym workouts.

2. Give up chocolate and cheese for September this is a hard one for me- after being plagued by bad skin most of the summer I'm cutting out these two to see if it effects my face. Teenage skin in my twenties are never really the dream combination.

I also plan to blog more in September but life seems to get in the way....

August goals!

So I'm going to try and make myself accountable to my fitness goals, so by publishing my goals on the internet that means I have to follow through right?!? I hope so...

Right confession time-I didn't stick to my half marathon training plan in July so
1. Follow the training plan and kick my butt at increasing speed. Tempo runs are in the plan and I should gently be increasing my mileage, my favourite part of training for an event.

2. Join a new gym and return to weights. I've started a new job and as much as I love my current gym (and I really do) it's no longer on my commute. So I want a gym the same price and that doesn't have a male dominated weight area.

3. Try new recipes. Last month I loved having a rice crust quiche for lunch and trying actual recipes rather then just 'throwing things together.' I also brought myself ice lolly mould MONTHS ago which I have yet to use so I lollys must feature in my diet this month.

What are your fitness goals? Do you find it harder or easier to work out in the summer months?

Welcome

Welcome to my site! I've started this blog because I'm a little obsessed with all things fitness, health and running. But before you turn away- please don't let me put you off! I don't have killer abs or the body of a fitness model but I hope this blog will let me try all the health & fitness crazes, but in a way that is possible in a normal lifestyle.

So if your like me love running & working out but love the occasional piece of cake and drink on the weekend let's follow this path together.
